Zuffa cuts “Golden Glory” fight team from Strikeforce roster
And that’s the end of one of the best group of fighters that Holland has to offer!
According to “Golden Glory” lead-trainer Martijn de Jong, who first put the news out on his Twitter, former Strikeforce champion Marloes Coenen, Valentijn Overeem, and UFC heavyweight Jon Olav Einemo have all been released from their contracts. Before this happened, Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem was released this past weekend for dubious reasons as well, with a vague reason from Dana White but nothing concrete.
All three of these fighters were coming off losses in the company, however Marloes was riding a two-fight win streak before her submission loss to Miesha Tate this weekend, while Valentijn had three straight wins before his last loss to Chad Griggs.
At this time, the only fighter from this camp still contracted to fight is Sergei Kharitonov, who is fighting Josh Barnett in the next round of the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix. This fight is now do or die for him no doubt, as “the powers that be” will be looking for any reason to cut him as well.
