WWE makes their first attempt at MMA
Ohio Valley Wrestling, a developmental territory for the WWE has announced the launch of the Vyper Fight League, which will debut at the Davis Arena in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, April 24.
This is a new MMA promotion being launched by OVW, owned by Danny Davis and formerly booked by Jim Cornette, Paul Heyman and Al Snow to name a few, is a strange step for a pro wrestling company. On February 7, 2008, WWE announced that they had ended their relationship with OVW as a developmental territory, moving all contracted talent to Florida Championship Wrestling. However, on September 23, OVW announced that WWE Sr. VP John Laurinaitis visited and scouted OVW wrestlers and that WWE will take “a much more active role in recruiting OVW developed talent.”
Such wrestlers who once worked in OVW include John Cena, Batista, Santino Marella, and current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. At this time, only two men are listed on the offical website for this event, Jason Bradshaw and Josh Cooper.
