UFC on Fox 2 Full Press Conference Video
TheFightNerd.com was on site at what turned out to be a very entertaining UFC on Fox 2 press conference yesterday in Chicago, at the United Center. UFC President Dana White, The announced headlining fighters; Rashad Evans, Phil Davis, Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz were in attendance. The match up that was rumored last night was confirmed by the attendance of Michael Bisbing and Demian Maia. Above is the video of the entire uncut & uncensored press conference, which lasted nearly an hour.
The Chicago fans were full of gratitude and thanks when they stepped up to the podium to talk to their favorite fighters. The press focused heavily on questions about wrestling, and the fighter’s places in the championship picture. Sonnen had some sound byte worthy quotes during the night, and Michael Bisping’s wit wasn’t far behind. Evans and Davis engaged in some rather controversial banter during their interview, and left the audience shocked and entertained. Make sure to hit the jump to check out some more highlights of the press conference.
Some alarming news about Welterweight Champion Georges St Pierre had began floating around the internet yesterday morning, and Dana White confirmed the worst. ”George St Piere is out for 10 months now, and Now Diaz and Conduit are going to fight for the title” “They are fighting for the interim title” The champions time off will send shock waves through the division as many of the top fighters have not made the fighting futures clear. Matt Hughes and BJ Penn have both decided to take some time off, while Josh Koshcheck has been talking about moving to middleweight.
When asked about what would be different about the UFC on Fox 2 broadcast, than the heavily criticized UFC on Fox: Velasquez vs Dos Santos, Dana White answered,
“The first one we did, we didn’t have a deal with these guys yet. The deal starts in January, we did that just to kick off the relationship with Fox, put on fight on. The difference between this one and the last one is this show is going to be two hours, there’s going to be a lot more fights than the first one.”
We asked Rashad about which fight meant more to him at this point in his career, a rematch with Lyoto Machida, or Jon Jones? “To fight Machida would get me to redeem my loss, but with Jon Jones we got that personal beef. So I definitely want to fight Jon, I want to get my hands on him bad. Every single time he opens his mouth…” Speaking of hands, Rashad elicited quite a few shocked looks, giggles, and mouths dropped on the floor I’m gonna put my hands on you worse than that dude on those kids at Penn State.” Perhaps Rashad should have taken some fight hype advise from the man sitting to his left.
“The Ultimate Fighter has been one of the longest running reality shows on television,” Dana White added about the TUF show, “The thing is, it’s a very relevant show. You can watch these guys live in this house. At the end of the season one guy moves on,wins the contract, but four to five guys end up moving into the UFC. Move on to Fight Nights, and in to pay-per-views. If you are a fan of fighting or a fan of mixed martial arts, it’s a great show to watch… It was an awesome dynamic between the coaches, and the talent this season… I said it before we even went on, this is the first time we’ve shown every single fight to get into the house cause they were that good. There was great talent, great heat between the coaches, and it was a home run.”
The press conference had a couple surprising stars including Rashad’s adorable son, the ever entertaining Shonie Carter, and a few fans who wanted to get their names onto the UFC roster. Make sure to keep your eye out over the next few days for a few chats we had with some of the fighters. UFC on Fox 2 is scheduled to take place on January 28th, and will air free on Fox.
