The details are suspiciously sparse, but a Russian news site RT gave a summary of the reported events:

One of the LifeJournal users was shocked when he met Monson in the city’s Metro, which he decided to take in order to make the 40-minute trip to the Moscow outskirts, where he was to hold a master class the day before the fight. He was dressed in hooded top and wearing flip-flops. The temperature on that day was around zero degrees.

On one of the stations he noticed two policemen trying to calm down a drunken man. Their methods seemed too aggressive to the American and he rushed to calm down the policemen. Monson’s escort decided not to wait until the American, known for his penchant for anarchism, beat up the surprised law-enforcers and stopped the scuffle.

The lack of any real details brings to question the validity of the story, or how exaggerated it may be. Jeff Monson, however, has not been one to shy away from confrontation in the past. He is a self-proclaimed anarchist and has had run in with the law. If there is any truth to the incident, Monson could have ended up in far worse of a situation than just losing to Emelianenko in his bout.

In an interview with Russian television program Life News, an obviously injured Jeff Monson gave his breakdown of his bout with Fedor Emelianenko this past Sunday, November 20th. Monson was in good spirits about the loss and seemed particularly impressed by the crowd of 22,000 at Olympic Stadium in Moscow.

“He’s the hometown guy, he got a lot of support, which he should,” said Monson. “But it was nice that some of the fans reacted positively to me.”

Jeff also spoke of Fedor’s game-plan, which involved not taking the usual risks, that had tarnished the former Pride Heavyweight Champion’s record in his past three bouts. Post fight, Emelianenko had even called himself, the New Fedor. MMATV.com also reports that Monson’s femur was broken, and his patella tendon was ruptured. There are currently no plans for Jeff Monson’s next bout. However, it is now rumored that Fedor Emelianenko will face Sato Ishii on New Years Eve in Japan.

Over 22,000 people flooded the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, including Russia’s prime minister Vladimir Putin, to watch Fedor Emelianenko break his losing streak against Jeff Monson.

A pudgy but still very solid Fedor evaded Monson’s takedown attempts throughout the course of the fight and played it safe, peppering his opponent’s face with jabs. In spite of Fedor’s appearance, he still dropped Monson several times with his trademark punching power, but was unable to finish the tough ATT gym member. By the end of the fight, Fedor pulled out a unanimous decision win over the American, and has his first win in over two years. You can check out the full fight in the video above.

During the post fight press conference, M-1 Global’s Vadim Finkelstein mentioned that Fedor will be meeting Olympic gold medalist Satoshi Ishii at DREAM’s big year-end event in Japan.

This weekend, Fedor Emelianenko returns to M-1 Global for his first fight sine his knockout loss to Dan Henderson in Strikeforce. Fedor hopes to break his three fight losing streak against MMA journeyman Jeff Monson, and it looks like Fedor has been bulking up to handle the mass of his much stockier opponent.

Fedor is rumored to be walking around at 245 lbs. these days, and we will know for sure at the official weigh-ins just how big he really is now. Is it muscle or fat? I suppose we will find out on November 20.

In Sunday morning’s co-feature, M-1 Challenge Lightweight Champion Jose Figueroa (10-4, 4 KOs, 5 Submissions), also fighting out of Florida, defends against German challenger Daniel Weichel (27-7, 4 KOs, 16 Submissions).

Also scheduled to fight on the PPV undercard is Russian welterweight Aleksander Yakovlev (12-3, 4 KOs, 7 Submissions) vs. undefeated Spanish prospect Juan Manuel “Juanma” Suarez (8-0, 1 KO, 3 Submissions), Austrian welterweight Mairbek “Beckan” Taisumov (15-3, 8 KOs, 6 Submissions) vs. Josh Thorpe (10-6, 3 KOs), from Alabama, and Russian middleweight Arthur Guseinov (9-2, 6 KOs, 2 Submissions) vs. French veteran Xavier “Professor X” Foupa-Pokam (21-16, 11 KOs, 7 Submissions). All fights and fighters are subject to change.

The new trailer for M-1 Global’s upcoming Fedor vs Monson event has finally been released. The event is scheduled to take place November 20th, at the Olympic Hall in Moscow, Russia. Fedor Emelianenko, once thought to be unbeatable, is coming off his third consecutive loss against former Strike Force light heavyweight champion, Dan Henderson. Jeff Monson most recently picked up a win at Sprawl n Brawl 8 via submission against Paul Taylor. His previous bout was a decision loss in Strikeforce against Daniel Cormier.

Fedor vs Monson will be available via pay per view for $29.99, with the broadcast beginning at 7:30 AM. Also on the card are M-1 lightweight champion, Jose Figueroa vs Daniel Weichei, Juan Manuel Suarez vs Aleksander Yakoviev and many more. A loss against Monson would be devastating to the former Pride heavyweight champion’s career, and further diminish The Last Emperors’ brand.

Later next month, M-1 Global features two back-to-back shows from Russia, including the anticipated return of Fedor Emelianenko after his three consecutive losses. It’s do or die time for Fedor, and M-1 has matched up with Jeff Monson. For those who are not excited yet for this match (like me), here is the trailer to hype the show up!

I like how this trailer ignores any of Fedor’s losses, only hinting at them when they say “10 years of total heavyweight domination”, but not saying that those ten years of domination recently ended. I also enjoyed how they called Jeff Monson an “American hero”, despite him being an anarchist and general hater of most things American. Are the Russian fans really eating this up?

The fight goes down November 20 in Russia, and fans can catch it NOT on Showtime, but on pay-per-view. Also on the card is Arsen Abdulkerimov VS Alexander Volkov. Fans might remember Volkov for his match against Pat Bennett at a Russian M-1 event, where Volkov basically lost three rounds of a fight, yet judges decided it was not clear enough and ordered a fourth round which he also lost, leading to the fight ruled as a draw and became labelled as “The Worst Decision of 2010″. I am being a bit judgmental with this event with little reason to be, and I am sure there will be plenty of good fights, but this trailer got me in a sour and cynical mood. Make me feel better and go enter my contest to win a signed pair of gloves from Cris Cyborg. It’s the only way to make me happy again.

As we announced yesterday, M-1 Global had plans to bring Fedor back to Russia for his next fight, and today we know who he will meet across from him in the big white ring.

Over on his Twitter page, Jeff Monson wrote, “Nov 12th vs Fedor in Russia M-1 confirmed,” and as quickly as that, the bout was on. Earlier speculation led many to believe Travis Wiuff or Mike Whitehead would be Fedor’s opponent, but instead he will have to contend with the American Top Team fighter instead. No official location has been announced for this match other than it will be somewhere in Russia.

Monson has gone 3-1 this year, his most recent bout a loss to Daniel Cormer in Strikeforce. The last time Emelianenko fought in Russia was in 2007 against Matt Lindland in St. Petersburg for Bodog Fights, where he won by armbar in the first round. Fedor was last seen in the Strikeforce cage in a losing effort against Dan Henderson that ended with the third loss in a row for the former Pride FC Heavyweight champ. His last win was against Brett Rogers nearly two years ago, also in Strikeforce.

W-1: Reloaded is set for October 15 at the Bank United Center at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida and according to W-1 president Jack Bateman, the reason his organization has not held an event in almost a year is that it underwent an ownership restructuring and he and his new partners were carefully laying the groundwork for the promotion’s foray into the U.S. because they wanted to make sure they took their time and did it right.

“Everything has come together and I couldn’t be happier with the way the company has evolved and the quality of our first event in the States,” Bateman told sources Monday. “I have a great group of partners who are at the top of their specific fields and whose skill sets bring a lot to the table when it comes to promotion and putting on events like we’ve come to be known for putting on. We have some big signings we’ve been working on and will be having a few of those names on our next card in Miami on October 15.”

The main event of “W-1 V2.0′s” first card will feature former UFC number one heavyweight contenders Jeff Monson (42-12) and Gabriel Gonzaga (11-6). “The Snowman” has one up on “Napao” having won on points when they squared off in a grappling match at the 2005 at the Abu Dhabi Combat Club World Submission Fighting Championships tournament in 2005 and will be hoping that since Gonzaga hasn’t fought since last October, the long layoff will be to his advantage. At 40, Monson is one of the most active fighters in the game having already fought five times this year. The American Top Team fighter is on pace to beat his career record he set last year with nine fights. Taking Gonzaga lightly, however, is never a good idea. Just ask Mirko “Cro Cop”Filipovic, who was knocked out via a nasty headkick when he overlooked the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt’s striking at UFC 70 back in 2007. The 32-year-old native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil who trains out of Team Link in Ludlow, Massachusetts, will likely be hungry for a win and to climb back into the heavyweight top 20 rankings.

Monson, who made his long-anticipated Strikeforce debut against Daniel Cormier two weeks ago at the second round of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, spoke with MMA event commentator and “The Voice of MMA in South Florida” Jen Boronico while being tattooed by the folks at “Mob Ink”. In this last episode, we see the process of Jeff being tattooed and why he chose to brand a corporate logo on his body for reasons that may surprise some. If you’ve never seen a heavyweight MMA fighter wince from a tiny needle, this might be your only chance!

By being tattooed with this logo, Monson takes long time sponsors’ slogan to a next level, “Making Extreme a Life,” and shows the ultimate compliment and respect to the World’s #1 Extreme Sports Brand.

Monson, who made his long-anticipated Strikeforce debut against Daniel Cormier this past weekend at the second round of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, spoke with MMA event commentator and “The Voice of MMA in South Florida” Jen Boronico about one of the worst competition experiences he has ever had – grappling “Pe de Pano”. The pair met at the finals of The Arnold Classic to end their trilogy of grappling matches with a $5,000 purse at stake. Monson and Pe de Pano made an agreement to split the prize, but things went awry and ended up leading into a huge brawl on the mats between American Top Team and the Gracies!

Don’t forget to check out last week’s episode, where Monson discussed what is left for him in his storied MMA career. Stay tuned next week for the final episode in this series, where Monson takes long time sponsors’ slogan to a next level, “Making Extreme a Life,” as he gets the Kimurawear Brand Logo tattooed on his body as a show of ultimate respect to the World’s #1 Extreme Sports Brand.
