In an update from our story yesterday, Duane “Bang” Ludwig will not be awarded the fastest knockout in UFC history after all. MMA Junkie spoke to Nevada State Athletic Director Keith Kizer, who says the bout will never be changed and the official time will stay at 0:11 seconds.

“The ruling is that it stays at 11,” NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer today told MMAjunkie.com “There’s no legal avenue to overturn it.” Kizer declined the appeal this past month. “I did tell his people,” Kizer said. “I timed it myself with a stopwatch. It was eight seconds. Officially, it’s got to stay at 11 seconds, but unofficially, it could be at eight… If you use a stopwatch, from the time the fight starts to the time that Mario grabs Duane, it’s about 7.9 seconds,” he said. “Why the official timekeeper had it at 11, I don’t know. But it wasn’t 11, and it wasn’t four, either.”

The UFC will supposedly continue to recognize this as the official fastest KO, while Kizer and the NSAC will not. Kizer added a stinger to his comments, “They can say whatever they want… Sounds like they want to be the WBC for some reason.” The WBC recently changed the outcome of a match between Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson, so perhaps Kizer is onto something after all.

Who says you can’t change history? Duane Ludwig has been petitioning the Nevada State Athletic Commission to review his fight from 2006 that most regard as the fastest unofficial knockout in UFC history. However, because the referee took too long to jump in, the official time became eleven seconds.

UFC President Dana White tweeted this on Christmas eve:

@DUANEBANGCOM @ufc and for x mas you have the fastest KO in UFC history and it will be changed ASAP

Ludwig’s response on Twitter was, “HOLY S**T! THANK U!! Pls tell me @danawhite twitter is NOT hacked?!” It was not, and now Ludwig can hold his head high.

At UFC 140, Chan Sung Jung tied the ‘official fastest KO in UFC history’ with his 0:07 second KO of Mark Hominick, tying that previous ‘official record’ of Todd Duffe’s of Tim Hague at UFC 102. The recent UFC Encyclopedia by Thomas Gerbasi also completely ignored Ludwig’s unofficial KO record, so there is going to be a lot of fans who need to get brought up to speed on this one.

Congrats, Bang!

Earlier today on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Nate Marquardt revealed that he suffers from a testosterone deficiency for which he took prescribed testosterone and sought a therapeutic exemption to continue his career. Despite that knowledge, Marquardt’s levels of testosterone were too high for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, who decided to not clear him for the fight. As a result of this, Dana White cut Marquardt from the roster and vehemently banned him from ever working for the UFC again.

Rosi Sexton wrote on Twitter, “Frankly, there are easier ways to get away with steroid abuse. This whole thing is like dana freaking out about someone leaving the oven on when his house is already on fire. The whole system needs dealing with, not one scapegoat.” BJ Penn had similar comments, only a bit harsher. “All this testosterone replacement therapy stuff is total BS,” he wrote on Twitter, “A true martial artist would never consider cheating! Everyone has to come together and get this “ped” cancer out of our sport!”

Ben Askren had different words for Marquardt, challenging him instead, “You are a cheater, not once but frequently. Stop cheating, come to bellator and I will crush you.” He added later, “I have zero sympathy for a compulsive cheater. We need less of those people in the world.” Duane “Bang” Ludwig was more supportive of Marquardt, and wrote, “I LOVE @NathanMarquardt no MATTER” on his twitter page. Not many fighters have spoken out on this topic, but if I missed any, make sure to leave them in the comments section below!

The Fight Nerd returns with 10 more fights you have never seen before (or maybe you have, but that makes you as big of a loser as me)! We keep the countdown going but this time with more of the big names you might know from the UFC and Strikeforce, so see how many of these fights you’ve seen and how many you never even knew about.
