Massachusetts based WCF promotion planning a comeback

Don’t call it a comeback, they’ve been here for years! One of the first MMA shows I saw was the “World Championship Fighting” organization in Massachusetts, run by Joe Cavallaro. It has been far too long since the promotion ran a show, nearly a year in fact, and it looks like Joe Cav is set to change that and get the shows back in gear.

Cavallaro announced the addition of retired New England fighter and former Global Fight League President Dan Bonnell as the new lead matchmaker and head of marketing for World Championship Fighting. “Dan brings a wealth of experience in the fight game from matchmaking to operations, marketing and live event coordinating. I speak for myself, Rick (Caldwell) and the WCF, we couldn’t be any happier to have Dan back on the team.” says Cavallaro. Bonnell is no stranger to the WCF as he competed on all but one of the company’s 10 previous shows earning a record in the company of 7-2, dating back almost 4 years before he retired last year. Other notable names to have competed in their cards include WEC veteran Mike Campbell, Dan Lauzon, and UFC light-heavyweight champion and often-times surprising sports betting favorite, Jon Jones. Many local up-and-comers have also fought their way through the company, including Rick Hawn, Greg Rebello, Anthony Leone, Ryan Quinn, Noah Weisman, Calvin Kattar and John Benoit.

The next installment, WCF 11, is expected to be held in just 2 months in late June. The location will most likely be Wilmington, Massachusetts inside the Shriner’s Auditorium, the home of all of the previous cards which they might as well just rename the WCF Arena. Previous WCF shows have attracted large audiences (larger than I can say I have seen at nearly every local show in NJ and CT) as well as movers and shakers in MMA to attend such as Quinton Jackson, Kimbo Slice, Joe Lauzon, Marcus Davis, Mark Dellagrote, Kenny Florian, and lifelong friend of Cavallaro, UFC President Dana White. If you live in the MA. area and want to see their comeback live, head to their site to stay up to date on all the news from this promotion.
