Kimbo Slice wins boxing debut with 17-second knockout

TUF alumni and UFC & Elite XC veteran, Kevin Ferguson AKA Kimbo Slice, made a successful debut in professional boxing this past weekend. It took only seventeen seconds for Kimbo to destroy James Wade at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma via a brutal uppercut. Wade offered little offense nor defense against the man once heralded as “The Youtube Sensation” by Gary Shaw, but slammed the canvas quite hard once his brain was sent flying out of the top of his head.

Here is the knockout from another angle, where you can see a limp Wade falling through the ropes. Slice stands over him like that famous Muhammad Ali painting, as the crowd goes wild. In a post-fight interview with Fight Hub TV, Kimbo was unhappy with his performance and said he has a lot of learning to do still in boxing. He also said that he prefers the “one-dimension” of boxing and that he has his found his home in this form of pugilism.

What’s next for Kimbo? Hopefully not another can, since Wade was 0-1 before this fight. Considering all of the experience Kimbo has racked up in pro-MMA, I don’t know what commission would allow him to have a novice opponent like that, so hopefully in his next fight he is better matched and we can see how well Kimbo truly has adopted to boxing.

  2. [...] Kimbo Slice was successful in his pro-boxing debut, and seemed to be heading into pugilism permanently rather than MMA. Things have changed, but even with MMA rules, chances are both fighters will be swinging for the fences anyway. DADA actually has a legit MMA record, but he has not exactly fought any world-beaters yet. His match against Kimbo will be the highest profile bout that he has had, and for Kimbo, it should be another nice paycheck. Let’s just hope the match does not go the way of Ken Shamrock VS James Toney and fall apart. We will have more news on this match as it develops. [...]
