On Monday, the UFC announced that Johny Hendricks will meet Mike Pierce in a welterweight match at UFC 133 in Philadelphia.
Hendricks last fought Anthony Waldburger in the first round of their fight in Seattle at UFC Fight Night 24 at the end of March, getting himself back in track after suffering the first loss in his career against Rick Story last December. Mike Pierce is enjoying a three fight win streak in his last three appearances in the octagon, beating Kenny Robertson, Amilcar Alves and Julio Paulino. Both fighters have been fighting for Zuffa since 2009 (2008 for Hendricks) and had successful collegiate wrestling careers, Hendricks wrestling at at Oklahoma State University and Pierce representing represented Portland State University, and will most likely be meeting in a preliminary bout.
UFC 133 will take place on August 6 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA, and will be headlined by Jose Aldo defending his featherweight title against Chad Mendes. Also featured on the card will be Rashad Evans VS Phil Davis (who is replacing UFC light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones), Vitor Belfort VS Yoshihiro Akiyama, Rich Franklin VS Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, and Jorge Rivera VS Alessio Sakara, among other bouts. In other news, I am way more excited for this show than I was for UFC 128, so you can bet this nerd is going to be sitting in that audience, one way or another!
