James Toney and Ken Shamrock have a press conference, hijinx ensue
Last week we mentioned that some random MMA promotion was putting together a card headlined by James Toney meeting Ken Shamrock. Turns out those wild and crazy promoters decided to start hyping this train wreck as early as possible, and held a press conference last week. In addition to having the pair face off, talk trash and nearly fight each other, the rules for this bizarre meeting were also announced.
The fight will be contested in eight 3-minute rounds, with a thirty-second timer for when the fight hits the ground. In other words, Shamrock will have only 30 seconds to look for a submission when he tumbles to the ground with the very out of shape looking Toney. And you thought Shinya Aoki vs Yuichiro Nagashima was weird! Time will tell if this craziness really does happen or if someone pulls out first, but this could be the YAMMA of 2011 that we have all been waiting for.
The worst part is that despite being clearly held in a tiny gym, there was still a decent turnout of reporters at the conference. Not gonna’ lie though, if they came to my town I would be there in a heartbeat. Have any picks for a winner yet?
