Gina Carano’s “Haywire” film delayed once again
If I were to subtitle Gina Carano’s big on-screen debut as a leading lady, I would call it “delayed”. For the third time (to my recollection, “Haywire” has been delayed, and this time much further down the line than the previous delay.
Twitchfilm.com has the scoop on what is happening with the “face of women’s MMA” and her big movie:
Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming action-thriller starring MMA fighter Gina Carano has a new home at Relativity Media and will be dropping in theaters January 20th, 2012. The film features a ridiculous cast alongside Carano of Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas and Michael Angarano. This is not dissimilar to Soderbergh’s upcoming outbreak-thriller Contagion which stars Matt Damon, Marion Cotillard, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Bryan Cranston, John Hawkes and Demetri Martin. You gotta hand it to Soderbergh for at least having a great casting director.
“Haywire” was last reported to be released in August, which would have coincided with Gina’s return to the Strikeforce cage which was supposed to happen in Dallas this weekend. As fate would have it, Gina withdrew from that event so fans are left sans Carano once again. Is this movie going to ever come out or is this the “Duke Nukem Forever” of MMA, where if we wait for a decade or so we might finally get to see an end-result?

The delays are due to studio politics. The Distribution rights were being negotiated betweet Relativity and Lionsgate.
A trailer should be coming out in August.
