Gary Goodridge talks worked fights in Pride FC, UFC debut, & new autobiography

The Fight Nerd had a chance to speak with one of the pioneers of MMA and a man whose never-say-die attitude was most fondly remembered during his days in Pride FC, Gary Goodridge, hwo has just put out a new book. Written with help from Mark Dorsey, Gary is telling his tale to the world in his autobiography entitled, “Gatekeeper: The Fighting Life of Gary ‘Big Daddy’ Goodridge.”

We spoke to Gary about why he chose “Gatekeeper” as his title, along with his start in competition through arm wrestling and how that ultimately led him to MMA. Gary explained how his knockout debut at UFC 8 was actually a carefully planned attack, and dives into the seedy world of Pride FC and the rumors of worked fights. Goodridge also discussed how he has seen the world of MMA change around him over the years, and if MMA in Japan can ever reach the level it once was at.
