In the spirit of the holiday season, MMA Fighting’s Mike Chiappetta discusses the charitable efforts of some of mixed martial arts’ most generous.

“In the wake of the devastating March earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Inoue — a Japanese-American with long roots in the sport — was a one-man effort, traveling through the hardest-hit areas and offering assistance to the region’s residents in the form of clothing, food and supplies, as well as toys to children. Inoue reportedly drained his own personal savings in an effort to bring relief to every person he could reach.”

The guys at MMA Convert update and discuss the eminently plausible rumors on a bout between Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz on the next UFC on Fox venture.

“Man, it would be a heck of a gamble if this the direction the UFC is going in. They could just sit Sonnen out until June and put him in the title fight with Silva in Brazil and do huge business at the gate. With great risk comes great reward though. If Sonnen were to win on FOX and whip another epic post-fight challenge to Silva with millions of people watching, Silva vs. Sonnen 2 could very well become one of the biggest, if not the biggest fight in UFC history. Of course, if Sonnen loses, they risk losing it all, so yeah, quite the gamble.”

Nick Caron of Bleacher Report details exactly how big a threat welterweight contender Nick Diaz is to Georges St. Pierre’s title.

“While challengers like Matt Serra, Dan Hardy and BJ Penn pack a great punch, none of them quite have the combination of power and technique with their hands that Nick Diaz does.

The kid from Stockton, Calif. proved this at UFC 137 when he picked apart Penn in one of the greatest performances of his entire career. He didn’t get the knockout or submission he typically does, but there was no doubt who won that fight, and Penn had never been beaten down like that—even in the two losses he sustained against Georges St-Pierre.”
