Exclusive Video: Preview of tonight’s PRIDE-style opening to Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament

The Fight Nerd February 12, 2011 5

Yesterday evening at the IZOD Center for the Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament opening round weigh-ins, I was hanging out working the room and trying to get interviews. I began to notice that many of the fighters were being pulled away for some reason, and watched as they were led to the arena floor. I decided to follow after awhile, and managed to get myself right in the center next to the entrance ramp to watch the fighters rehearse the opening to tonight’s show.

Taking a page right out of Pride FC and other major Japanese MMA organizations, Strikeforce will be bringing us a parade of fighters with all eight participants in the tournament. The only thing missing from this is Lenne Hardt screaming their names at the top of her lungs, but we will have to live with Jimmy Lennon Jr. until they can fly her in from Tokyo.

The opening round of Strikeforce’s heavyweight tournament starts tonight at 10 PM EST on Showtime, but for those who are coming to watch it live, the first fight kicks off at 7:30 PM EST.

Thanks for that coverage Fight Nerd. Pumped for tomorrow. Bringing 8 friends who think we’re going to see the ‘UFC fights’. Hoping Strikeforce shows them the difference between UFC and MMA. This is big!!
