See the best amateur MMA knockout ever! And… a prelude to pepper spray!

Remember a few weeks ago when I made a vlog from Evolution Amateur MMA’s last event, “Evolution Fighting Championship”? If you are a true fight nerd, you would have since it contains all sorts of goodness from myself and partner in crime Peter Lampasona, and our analysis of the best amateur MMA show we have ever been witness to. It also included one of the greatest knockouts I have been witness to in person, amateur or pro!

Ben Syers from Team Renegade MMA laid out “Hairy” Bobby Ascolillo of The Jungle Gym in a record-setting four seconds with a single punch. As we discussed in the vlog, Ascolillo has a habit of dropping his head when he comes in and likes to come out with guns blazing. Syers had his opponent perfectly scouted and side-stepped his initial rush and nailed him with a left hand that put Bobby on the mats and completely out of it, so much so that after the fight he attacked referee Keith Peterson. When I say attacked, I really mean it as Ascolillo goes for an ankle pick to side control, works for the knee on belly and moves to full mount, all the while as ringside officials try to peel him off!

As for the other part of that title, this knockout blow is indeed a prelude to pepper spray! If you recall the vlog (did you watch it yet?) Peter Lampasona had made a bet with Syers, saying that if he won he would let himself be blasted in the eyes with pepper spray. Perhaps this was the motivation that Syers needed to smash through Ascolillo, and if so then Peter needs to offer this service to more fighters. What would Pete get if Syers had lost? Who knows and who cares, all I know is that someone is getting maced and The Fight Nerd will be there to record the madness once it happens!

Evo AMMA is returning to action this Saturday afternoon in North Bergen, New Jersey (which is not far from NYC as opposed to Atlantic City) so any fight fans who want to see some great fights NEED to check this show out! If you want to see some of the photos I shot from this event, head to this link over here.

  4. [...] I thought December would be a slow month for me. I was gravely mistaken. Let’s start off with a pointless but great video we shot earlier this month, which saw everyone’s favorite redheaded reporter, Peter Lampasona, get pepper-sprayed in the face for a bet he lost. The spraying itself is painful, but watch the aftermath to see how much worse it gets. And to think, this is all started from the fastest amateur MMA knockout ever. [...]
