Bernard Hopkins calls MMA “gay porno”
Boxing legend Bernard ‘The Executioner’ Hopkins, who is best known his decade long grasp of the IBF middleweight championship, is not an MMA fan. First we had Bob Arum and his incredibly childish response about MMA being for skinheads, but we took it with stride since what can we do about a 90 year old man with alzheimers who can not remember if his depends are on that morning. Before him we had Floyd Mayweather, but no one listens to him anyway since he was in that fake pro wrestling stuff. But this time, shots have been fired by a more respected member of boxing.
Hopkins told BoxingScene’s Bill Emes that grown men should not be watching MMA. He says MMA is not a sport, and compared it to a porno movie. According to Hopkins, he would feel “suspect” [possibly gay] if he bought a ticket to watch MMA.

“Everybody is different. I don’t want to watch two grown men wrestling with panties on. I’m from the hood, we don’t play that. To me, I’m not buying a ticket to watch two grown men with panties on, sweating, [with] nuts in their face. That’s not me. To compare that to boxing is ludicrous. It’s a porno. It’s an entertainment porno,” Hopkins told BoxingScene. “I’m not wrestling a guy with panties on and his nuts in my face, and they call that a sport.”
Hopkins would also tell BoxingScene that he wouldn’t have a problem if MMA had an audience made up of women, but it bothers him that groups of men could get together to watch MMA events.
“I’m not criticizing people for what kind of entertainment they like. I think most of those people have chains and masks in their closets. There is something out there for everybody. I can understand if 90% of women were going to those things but I can’t understand a grown man sitting there with a couple of guys watching two grown men with panties on, sweating. That’s just my opinion. It’s not a good look,” Hopkins said.
You can read the original link here, but why waste your time when I just gave you the scoop. The boxing community needs to have a pow wow and decide what MMA is, because it can not be both a gay porno and for skinheads, they cancel each other out (unless MMA is like Deliverance). I guess by now we should be used to these ignorant comments and just ignore them, although I am waiting for GLAAD to jump on Hopkins back, no pun intended, like they did with Dana White when he used similiarly negative words about the gay community.
These words also continue to show how alot of mainstream Americans views MMA. Most of them do not understand it still, and the boxing promoters know that which is why they will go out of their way to “educate” the fans on their beliefs. MMA is inferior to boxing in their minds, but a threat, so lets tell the fans that it requires no real skill and it is just rolling around the floor! General thinking like this is bad for the sport and the only way MMA can get around this is not to fire shots back at boxing but to find positive ways to reinforce what MMA truly is. How can MMA fans like you and me get the word out?

Matt… For Bernard Hopkins to call MMA gay.. and just 2 guys in panties rolling around with nuts in their faces is narrow-minded… but you have to understand where he is coming from.. the hood.. he’s from the streets of philly.. that’s not something you do… if a guy is down.. you kick him.. otherwise you throw hands… to call MMA a bunch of skinheads that is off base.. but the UFC is currently in the public’s eye MMA.. and they are currently dominated by white fighters or at least populated by white fighters.. I myself am more of a boxing fan.. I like the sweet science and I personally don’t like watching wrestlers and jui-jitsu fighters try to box.. I do understand the skill involved in the ground game.. and its not just rolling around on the ground..
People like KO’s.. as a whole we always have since Roman times.. Hell probably before.. MMA and particularly the UFC give the people that.. sometimes.. it’s because they are all swinging for the fences.. to me.. most of the fighters in the UFC don’t punch well.. they would be brawlers in boxing.. if they shortened punches.. maybe threw a jab or 2.. I don’t know.. maybe I’d watch more.. hopefully Strikeforce brings better promotions for MMA.

I took up the sweet science at a young age before evolving my fight game to include other forms of the fighting arts& without realizing, I was immersing myself into MMA.
Every one is entitled to their opinions, in this case, to the sport of MMA but what saddens me is the ‘crude’ remarks. At times even ‘childish’.
Back in them Gladiator days, you either kill or be killed. The Gladiator fights itself were originally held as part of a Death ritual ( usually held by a surviving family member of an aristocrat who passed on ). During those games, food, wine etc would be handed out to the masses. In turn this masses, with their stomach filled, would vote for the person/s who held the biggest/grandest games during elections, so the games were a part of a bigger political agenda.
The daily grind of growing up in the hood, I can pretty much relate but MMA is a sport, Boxing is a sport. You don’t set out to kill someone when you’re in the ring with them. It’s not in some back alleys.
Athletes from both fields, train their butts off just for that opportunity to be in a ring. It’s easy to call another sport ‘names’ if one has yet to understand the sacrifices etc the practitioners of the sport had to make& the regime they go through, on a daily basis.
For that alone, I think respect is what one should give even if you’re not into a certain sport.
At the end of the day, I could be rolling with someone’s nuts in my face today& cum next week I will be in my gloves bobbing, taking hits (according to boxing rules) but both ways I will be sweating and chances are even bleeding.
For that, I will always give my respect to any sport that involves the same blood, sweat& tears.
I do respect the art of boxing and the champions past and present. My idol to this day is ALI…hands down the best who ever done it. I have a laundry list of fighters including leonard, spinx, and even coto. I started out as a boxer at the age of 8,and then moved to kickboxing. The hunger to learn more and mix all of it into something I liked coming from a background where bruce lee was accepted like tyson. I don’t know how philly does it but every hood fight I’ve been in and watched , yeah they start boxing but the cat who can’t box that well always wrapped up the better boxer and dump him on his head…(wrestling/judo)…and then the better boxer would position himself to get back to his feet in oreder to get back to where he was more effective in a fight…(jits/wrestling)..YOU GET THE PICTURE…So don’t bring the hood into it….that’s stupid. To see hopkins just come out and call the sport a gay porno is like calling boxing the sport of fools….looking up to hopkins I took it personal..here is the guy who alot of youngstars look up to and try to be like in the sport watching and listening to him acting like a klan member justifying segregation…YES IT IS THAT SERIOUS…If you don’t agree go to a GRACIE and tell him that to his face….it’s har enough with the labels of being too brutal for children even illegal in some states..but to see a member of a sport that is respected by the MIXED MARTIAL ARTS world and that is a big part of the competitions that we as fighters use………..LOOK I DIDN’T LIKE THE COMMENT..AND IT’S FUCTUP TO HEAR DIS SHYT FROM DIS OL NIGGUH WIT HOMO SHYT ON HIS MIND..OTHERWISE WHY BRING GAY SHIT INTO THE INTERVIEW…..THINK ABOUT THAT BEFORE YOU BRING THE HOOD INTO IT…….YO BITCHASS
mma is in fact a venue for tough guy wanna bees quite simply its street fighting we all did it growing up to legitimize it is folly but nonetheless agree or disagree ufc and mma is reserved for those who dont have the hand skills to fight like a man period and in the event of a takedown or ground and pound we used to call that charging tackling and mounting again we all did it when we where kids sorry guys i am not impressed one of those mma guys tried that shit with me and got beat down question answered
