Day 3 – Karo Parisyan

karo

Fresh out of his termination from the UFC, Karo Parisyan makes his way into my art blog! Promising young fighter with great credentials, I hope he gets his stuff taken care of so we can see him back in the cage at some point down the line. We all have our demons and the hardest part is mentally beating them. So good luck Karo, you are in the fight of your life now. This drawing was pen and ink with the big black areas done in sharpie for time and then darkened in photoshop.

Day 2 – Stephan Bonnar

bonnar

Here is a quick head shot of Stephan Bonnar. I did not touch up the black areas digitally this time, it was done with the help of a pointy sharpie and a wider nib on my pen. I think I got some good structure on Bonnar’s face with this one and the background really helps cement him in the space. Reminds me of a Bernie Wrightson drawing too, which makes sense because I was reading old “Swamp Thing” comics before I drew that.

First post – and it’s Fedor Emelianeko

Welcome to The Fight Nerd’s art blog! Most of you do not know how I got my start in MMA and it was through my illustration and design work. It is not an easy business to get into, but I am still with it and have now decided to take a new direction with my doodles and share them with you guys on (ideally) a daily basis!

So check back here every day for new doodles, today is the start of this endeavor and to honor that, why not start with the #1 ranked Heavyweight fighter in MMA, Fedor Emelianeko! This was done in pen and ink, the big black parts were done in photoshop to make my life easier. The reference is a shot I took at a press conference that was also my first ever gig with Sherdog!
